Thank you for showing interest in helping Crestview Elementary build a new playground. Our community appreciates and NEEDS your support!
Crestview Elementary's playground is more than a place for students to play at during recess. It has always been a community gathering place and has recently become even more needed for children while experiencing the disruptions that have come with the pandemic. It is a safe space for the children in our community to build friendships, gain confidence and develop physical, social, emotional and imaginative skills.
The current playground at Crestview Elementary is almost 30 years old. It has outdated equipment which has continual issues with wear. There are unsafe areas of the playground which have led to children being injured. Also very important to this committee, the playground is not accessible for every student at Crestview! It does not follow the current recommendations and specifications outlined in ADA regulation (this is because it was built before ADA playground regulations existed). It also does not provide a range of developmentally appropriate equipment for the students at Crestview. Unfortunately, Granite District is unable to pay for a new playground for our school at this time due to financial limitations.
A group of neighborhood parents has started a committee to plan, fundraise and build a new playground at Crestview Elementary. We would like to create a community playground that is accessible to EVERY student and provides a safe and fun place for our neighborhood. We have received approval from Granite School District for this project. We also have the support of the administrators and faculty at Crestview Elementary. Read more about this here!
We are collecting donations through Crestview Elementary. Donations should be submitted with this form (also available at Crestview Elementary's front office) directly to Crestview Elementary School.
We have some wonderful prospective playground plans. Our plans include surfacing and playground equipment that follows current ADA guidelines and provides a safe and developmentally appropriate play experience for every child at Crestview. If possible, we'd love to also add a Kindergarten playground, which would include equipment that is safe and age appropriate for our younger students. Click here to view images of potential playground options.
If we are able, our plan is to collect donations before the end of the school year. This would allow the playground to be put in during the summer months when school is out.
In order to create a playground like the one in the mock-ups, we would need to raise about $300,000. A significant portion of this monetary goal goes toward putting in surfacing that would be wheelchair accessible - which is very important to our committee.
$143,000 - New Equipment
$125,000 - Surfacing
$28,000 - Installation
$8,400 - Freight
We know that this is a steep goal! If we are able to raise only a portion of the money, we have plans to upgrade a portion of the playground and still put in new surfacing that will be wheelchair accessible.
We will also need to remove the current pea gravel and do not have a cost for this line item yet. Any additional in kind donations are greatly appreciated. Please contact Crestview Elementary if you are able to offer assistance. Click here to view 'Images of Prospective Playground'.
